Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala/Entebbe – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls National Park

Destination: Murchison Falls National Park

Main activities: scenic road transfer, rhino tracking and visit to the Top of the Falls

Our Uganda Safari begins with a friendly welcome from our experienced drive guide from Chopper Tour and Travel, who is supposed to pick you up from your hotel in either Kampala or Entebbe. After some quick briefing about the safari, start a fantastic journey through the countryside of Uganda to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

After getting there, embark on a rhino tracking exercise along with professional rangers, thus providing you with an opportunity to come across those spectacular animals in their natural environment. Proceed to Murchison Falls N.P, which is the biggest national park in Uganda with lots of wildlife and spectacular waterfalls.

Depending on the time of arrival, you may be able to visit the top of Murchison Falls, where the River Nile passes through the rocks before falling down. Take pictures of the spectacular views and then head on to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Murchison Falls Boat Cruise

Destination: Murchison Falls National Park

Activities: Morning game drive, Nile boat cruise

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and embark on a morning game drive. During early morning hours, the cool temperature creates an excellent chance to traverse the savannah grassland areas of the park while looking out for animals starting their day.

The guide will escort you through appropriate game viewing trails, allowing you the chance to sight elephants feeding on the plains, giraffes grazing at the edges of the trees, buffalo herds and other antelopes roaming on the open plains, and possibly lion prides sleeping or eyeing their prey.

After the game drive, return to your lodge for lunch or continue depending on the day’s schedule and the boat cruise departure time.

In the afternoon, head to the Victoria Nile and take a boat trip to the falls of Murchison Falls Park. From the boat, enjoy the scenery on the banks of the river, look out for hippos swimming in the river, Nile crocodiles on the shore, elephants coming to drink from the river and various types of birds.

The boat trip takes you to the place where the Victoria Nile is squeezed into a gorge before descending further downstream. With the water, cliffs and vegetation, the setting provides an excellent backdrop for both photography and sightseeing.

Return to the lodge for the night to have your dinner and relaxation.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park – Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park

Main activity: Road travel and country viewing

Destination: Kidepo Valley National Park

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner depending on your package

After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and embark on the drive from Murchison Falls to Kidepo Valley National Park in northeastern Uganda.

This will be among the longest road travel days of the safari; therefore, leaving very early is crucial. You will be travelling through northern Uganda, where rural towns, local markets and diverse scenery are visible while approaching the Karamoja region. Your guide will ensure there are necessary breaks for rest and meals during the day.

As you approach Kidepo, the environment becomes more stunning, with extensive grasslands plains, hills and valleys that make up the wild area.

Kidepo is among the less frequently visited national parks of Uganda due to the remote location far from other popular safari parks.

After arriving at Kidepo V.N.P, make your way to your lodge or safari camp, giving yourself time to relax after the lengthy journey. Depending on the time of arrival, state of the roads and proximity to the lodge, there could be enough time left for enjoying the scenic surroundings of the lodge before lunch. Afternoon game drives can only be undertaken if there is enough time left.

Day 4: Full Day Game Drive in Kidepo Valley NP

Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives

Location: Kidepo

Dining: Breakfast, lunch and dinner as per the package

Get up and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Kidepo Wilderness and have breakfast before taking a game drive in the morning.

Your guide will lead you through the best sites in Kidepo Valley to have the chance to see the animals in their natural habitat. You will go through the Narus Valley, which is a site where you will find favourable habitats for animals because of the presence of water and grazing areas. You might get a chance to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and different types of antelopes in Kidepo.

Kidepo is known for having predators like the lions. Your guide will take your tour routes depending on how he is familiar with the park and the present condition. But, because of the unpredictable nature of animal watching, nothing is certain.

Get back to your lodge at noon for lunch and rest during the hot part of the day.

In the afternoon, get back to the park to continue animal watching. Go through different parts of the savannah and appreciate the beautiful combination of the grassland, distant hills and rugged environment. The lighting during the evening will give you a good opportunity to take photos of nature.

At the end of the day, go back to your lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Visit to the Karamoja Community

Location: Kidepo Valley N.P. and the Karamoja area

Key Activities: Morning game drive, scenic drive and community visit

Start your day by taking breakfast in the morning and then head out on a game drive in the Kidepo V.N.P. Visit the Narus Valley for an opportunity to view elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras and various antelope species within the park. The game drive will be guided by a guide who will help you spot various wildlife species in the park. You may choose instead to spend time observing the animals within the lodge at your own leisure, depending on the timing that you prefer.
